End of school year 2008/2009

It has been an interesting year!
I will continue this blog, however. New kids, new year... new challenges!
See you all back in August 2009!

(For my beloved children: you'll always stay in my heart! I'm so proud of you!!)

Field Trip: the Zoological Museum - end

In the museum: where do these animals come from?
At the end, a group picture!

Field Trip: the Zoological Museum - more

Kids in the museum: hearing the different sounds the mini beasts make.

Field Trip: the Zoological Museum

Interesting! Kids could have a close look at little bugs and "big ones". Fun to go to... A nice tip for parents too!

Art on Mini-beasts

The children have created their own funny mini-beast. Very creative ... They have also painted ladybugs on rocks... They're sitting outside our door. Take a look!

The unit of inquiry and maths

As normal, we always try to integrate the inquiry into the main subjects of study. When learning 2D shapes, for example, the children have created a beehive (with hexagons) and sorted the shapes by curved and straight lines. We have also (on data handling) seen what is every body's favorite mini-beast.

Mother's Day

On Mother's day, we chose to present the mums with something to do with our unit of inquiry: a ladybug paper's holder. Really nice...

Another Bug Hunt

The Bug Hunt continues... this time we went to the duck pond near the school. This mini-beasts are very difficult to catch...

Bug Hunt - part 2

The search continues...

Bug Hunt

Very exciting: our first bug hunt! We are hopping to find butterflies, caterpillars and ladybugs. We found spiders, ants, slugs, snails, beetles and flies. They were all on our science table. At the end of the day, some children took these "new friends" home. Others, I had to let them go.

Inquiring about Mini-Beasts

Inquiry...
Children look at books to find important facts about some mini-beasts. They also create their own bug. Funny ones, you should see...

Mini-Beasts activities

The children are engaged with different activities and learning moments: Arts (painting bees and ladybugs); Free play (playing with bugs); Maths (ladybug teaches double numbers).

Our unit display looks likes this.

End of our 4th Unit of inquiry: Clothes

We ended it up in beauty, haven't we?

The Class Council

During the class council (taken place on Friday mornings) we discuss few things written on the class diary (throughout the week)and/or any other important topic. This time, still based on this unit of inquiry "Clothes", the children and teacher wondered about school uniforms and about a dress code. We have invited, Erin and Tracy, from Kiga 2, to come over to show and tell us about their school uniforms' experience. Very interesting...

A lot of learning took place...

The children learned: how to sew; that fabrics have sometimes patterns (we saw that in Maths); during Science, the kids have seen which materials keep us the warmest.

Where do our clothes come from? Show and Tell

"Where do our clothes come from?"

We've asked the children and parents to work on this poster at home, to be presented together, or not, at school. The result was great! A lot of effort, as always...
