We will start our second unit of inquiry, of this school year. Super senses! It is a very interesting and hands-on theme to work on. I love it and the children, for sure, will love it too!
5 Senses Poem
We use five senses every day To help us learn and play. See, hear, smell, touch, taste. We do these every day.
Our first student led-conference was very successful! Most of the parents attended and the children felt tremendously proud by leading their parents around school and by showing them everything. We will be doing more of this throughout the year!
Children at their first show and tell: parent's occupation. The task was to explain, more or less, one of their parent's job as a (or not), community helper. It went quite well, for the first time!
Our different role play stations and children playing doctors and firefighters. This unit was very successful in terms of role playing. I've enjoyed observing the kids learning about life situations!
We went to the post office in Glattzentrum, to send the letters to the mothers where we told them that on our last unit day, we need to come dressed up as our favourite community helper.
One of our lines of inquiry is we all living in a community and having roles and responsibilities towards it. Vincezo, came to our classroom to explain to us what he exactly does in our school community. We talked about our own classroom essential agreements and we got to know a bit more our neighborhood (we've done a community map). We became more general now, by inquiring who really helps us in our community. The traffic Instructor is one. The children have done their own lollipop signs and we went out to practicing crossing the road. It was fun!
Our first unit of inquiry: Helping Hands (Community Helpers). It's all about doctors, police officers, dentists, firefighters and teachers. We've started off by pre-assessing the children's knowledge about this theme (hands wreath). Then we've made a human graph (what do I want to be when I grow graph). After this, the role play took place. They love playing doctors!
