Our Community activity ideas

Children are really engaged with this unit! During free play, they got together and build their own community with Lego. They were very proud. And deserve this note. Talking about community, we've got our flags. Shape and color were chosen by the children.
The Display board in the MPH is our class responsibility. We are getting everybody's contribution to build a school's community quilt. What is a community?

Unit: Mail carriers (community helper)

We have a real post office and everybody has his/her own mailbox. We also have real mail carriers...
We always try to incorporate the unit into the subjects: children learn mathematical concepts like sorting, by playing with letters and envelops.

Field Trip: Post Office

Last Tuesday, we went to visit the Post Office in the "Zentrum Glatt". The children showed a lot of interest and the the proof of this, is the post office role play area in our classroom...

Fun on fantastic Fridays...

Friday are always fun days for us. We move away from the normal routine and do things that sometimes, unfortunately, we don't have time to do during on the other days: arts and more free play, are just 2 examples.

More teddies' hospital...

The children have really engaged themselves in the role play. Actually, they still do. A lot of learning about this community helper has taken place.

Teddies' Hospital

Our teddies were sick. We got them appointments in our Hospital. They were looking much better when they left. They just needed more rest... We has plasters, bandages, syringes, stethoscopes, everything that a real doctor has.
It was a lot of fun...!

On the 4th week of school...

On the continuation of our "helping hands" unit of inquiry, we had "doctors", as special guests. Well, this week's topic is doctors and dentists and we've decided to dress up as doctors. Don't we look cute?

Fantastic Friday

On Fantastic Fridays, we play bingo, eat popcorn, watch movies and we revise what we have learned during the week (regarding the unit of inquiry...)

The Traffic Police visited us...

First, we had a little training indoors. And then, we went outside... It was scary! Anyway, I almost had a heart attach, but the kids were great! They have all passed the test. Well done!

Role Play - the Police

The Police help us in various ways. One of them is to help finding our lost important belongings. This is what the children have created, in this situation. It was a lot of fun!

More about the unit on Helping Hands

We have our own Helping hands chart. It shows whenever the children are being caring by helping others. They are also "class community helpers"...

Just for fun!

To laugh...
