Next unit of inquiry is....CLOTHES!!!

CENTRAL IDEA: Many different factors influence the clothes that we choose to wear

The "Sense-sational" Science Fair ends

A big thank you all.
With this, we finish our unit of inquiry on "Super Senses". I've been already hearing lots of nice interesting feedback from children and parents. I hope you all enjoy the next unit, just like this one!

The "Sense-sational" Science Fair continues...

Parents experimenting and tasting at our coffee corner!

The "Sense-sational" Science Fair

Finally... the day of the "Sense-sational" science fair has arrived. The children have prepared experiments and showed their parents what they've been inquiring about. We started with the senses song and then the children were responsible by their parents through the different senses centers. It went very good: kids and adults found this experience quite interesting. At the end, we ask the parents for a little contribution to help "Visoparents", a Swiss institution for blind children, in Duebendorf. Thank you very much for your generous contribution. You, Kiga 1 parents, are the best!!

It's Carnival!!

Look at us... The children were very excited and we couldn't actually have much done but...
Thank you PC, for the great after school party!

Sensory Walk

We went to the duck pond for a Sensory walk; we saw snow and some animals; we smelled smoke from the highway and chocolate from the chocolate factory; we felt the cold air and touched snow; we heard some birds and cars passing. When we went back to school, we tasted hot tea. Nice and warm...

Kindercity - continues...

At Kindercity, our children have done a tasting and smelling workshop and visited the "wissensweg" (the senses center). A lot of interesting facts for the children to explore and learn!

Kindercity

Our field trip to Kindercity: coming to the end of our unit of inquiry.

Touching

Hands on textures, "our super senses" sign and a Feely wall... all different activities to permit touching!

Senses - Tasting 3

More tasting... fruit salad with Miss Helga (our German teacher) and fresh lemon juice. Look at the happy chefs...

Senses - Tasting 2

We are tasting... with Stefan (thanks for coming again!), we tasted all different sorts of things and flavors. We also did some tasting of our own: we baked brownies. They tasted yummmmy...
The children also had fun playing the senses bingo.

Senses - Tasting

Our 3rd sense is: tasting. Did you know that we have more than 3000 taste buds in our tongue and 4 different tastes? So, the children had to taste and decide if they were sweet, salty, sour or bitter. We've made really funny conclusions...

Language lesson

Learning sight words. Here is how we do it: playing the "around the world" and the "tic tac toe" games. Our "kigas" love it!

Senses - Smelling

Stefan (Lukas' dad) came to the class to help us inquiring about the different smells and how we know what we have smelled. We've learned so much... Did you know, for instance, that smells have colors?

Senses - Smelling

We've made our own perfume. We even got a name for it: "L'eau des fees." It smells like... well I think you should come over to try it. The children were proud of this. If you want to know more, check our "Senses Journal". We also played games like: "can you guess these smells". The kids had to guess (blindfolded) what they were smelling. Funny!

A Math lesson

Maths is fun... we use uni fix cubes and other manipulative.
We are doing addition and subtraction.
